Coastal contemporary
Completed in 2008, on the coastal dunes south of Perth, this residence has a commanding view of the Indian Ocean.
The colours of the rendered walls and roof have been well chosen to match that of the surrounding landscape with the result that despite the building's identifiable mass it is visually sympathetic to the surroundings.
The design by Fremantle Architects - Bradley Kelsall & Wu is a considered approach to the view to the west, the afternoon sun and prevailing winds. The building features a covered terrace at the first floor that extends across the entire west elevation to afford substantial shade on the expansive glazed walls of both levels. Maximum shielding from the southerly winds has been created by stepping the building back along the western elevation as it extends across the site.
